Wind of Desire Film and Premier review
by Vladimir Lescouflair

The Movie premier of the Haitian-American film “Wind of Desire” took place on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002. The Red Carpet affair was held at the Intracoastal Theatre in North Miami Beach in a grand Hollywood Fashion complete with limos, celebrities and the media. The movie was a romantic thriller film set in modern day Miami and Haiti and although most of the cast and crew were of Haitian descent, the themes of “love” and pride in your heritage was universal. Ninety five percent of the film was in English with subtitles during a short French conversation.

There wasn't an empty seat in the house. The event was attended by various celebrities and politicians including; Ti Kapi of Tabou Combo, Members of the group 509, Farah Juste, attorney/social activist Marlon Hill, North Miami Mayor Joe Celestin, representatives from Dade County mayor Alex Pinellas, and North Miami Beach Mayor Jeffrey A.Mishcon among others, and of course all the members of the cast and the director/producer Wilkenson Bruna. The excitement was so palatable after the film that movie attendees stayed long after the viewing to talk to the actors and to ask for autographs. The general response to the movie was positive. To all who attended, it was a step in the right direction. Attendees said they couldn't’t wait till the next feature film.

The film was directed by Wilkenson Bruna and starred Dr. Rudolph Moise. Moise, an accomplished businessman with Hollywood leading-man good looks who is not only a Doctor but also an attorney did surprisingly well as an actor. Moise’s character Dr. Richard Lazar gets in the middle of a love triangle that goes bad (don’t they all?) The lovely actresses playing Lazar’s love and lust interests were Bernadette Chitole (bad-girl) and Stefanie Henriquez (good-girl.) The humor, exciting love scenes, beautiful landscapes and attractive cast made for good entertainment.

The major reason for such enthusiasm and pride is that it was the first time a completely Haitian film made it to a major cinema outlet. It is currently playing alongside other big budget Hollywood films as Harry Potter 2, I Spy starring Eddie Murphy, and James Bond: Die Another Day.

The film will run for two weeks beginning Friday Nov 22, 2002 in Miami at the Intracoastal Theatre (305-949-0064) and in Sunrise at Broward's Forum Cinema (954-741-1820). windofdesire-themovie.com is the official website.
