Miami Sting 2002
It was Lyrically War at the Miami Sting March 2002 between the bitter musical rivals Bounty Killa and Merciless. The concert also featured performances by Morgan Heritage, Lady Saw and several other dancehall acts however the crowd was there to see the face-off between the Warlord and the Warhead. Merciless who performed 1st challenged Bounty to the duel, he primary diss for the night was Bounty's appearance in American pop group No Doubt's video which also featured a naked man dancing. The Lyrical battle continued with Bounty calling himself Merciless's father, as it was his vocal style that Merciless copied. It was enteraining and the crowd consensus had Merciless as the winner.
The evening's other highlight was the High-Octane performance by Elephant Man who took his act off the stage and into the crowd, talk about Energy ! Elephant Man put on one of the most
unique and entertaining performances I've ever seen in a dancehall stage show. While performing his hit "log-On" Elephant Man took several members of the audience on stage to dance
the "log-on" with him. His performance was well recieved by the mostly youthful crowd.
Cultural sounds were provided by the Morgan Heritage and Anthony B. When Morgan first took to the stage, the mostly Bashment crowd was unresponsive, but within a few minutes into their set they had the crowd singing along with their hits
"Down by the River" and "Don't Haffi Dread to be Rasta". Anthony B opened with Peter Tosh's "Equal Rights and Justice" and proceeded to bun his usual no holds barred fiyah.
Despite the cultural injections dancehall and slackness ruled the night. Lady Saw, billed as the "rudest gyal in dancehall" proved herself to be just that with a X-Rated performance that had the Dancehall Queens in an uproar. Merciless took the stage after Elephant Man's outrageous act and proceeded to clear his name
in a song about the rape charge that he was recently cleared of. "A Gyal try tarnish mi War Characta..after mi let her ride pon mi tracta" then proceeded to challenge his Nemisis to a stage duel "mi cyan't war by mi-self."
All and all it was a good show, with a diverse grouping of artist without the violence and Controversy of the Jamaica Sting. The Irony is the show here was far more "Slack" and outrageous with Elephant Man at one point dragging a girl on top of a speaker with him and placing her hand on his privates instructing her to fondle him while he sang, however in America this is just accepted as entertainment protected by the freedom of speech.
